Ciaté’s colaboration with Olivia Palermo

When it comes to make-up I’m always staying with a favorite when I find one. That means that not many eye-palettes have managed to replace, not even partially, my all-time favorite for the last four-five years which is Naked from Urban Decay. But I did find a palette that is challenging that place big time! That palette is The Smouldering Eye Palette coming from Ciaté’s collaboration with Olivia Palermo.

When the Swedish representative from Ciaté asked me if I wanted to try some products from their collaboration collection with Olivia Palermo I immediately said yes. I had already been trying a couple of the polishes that I was in love with and I’ve also been eyeing some of the other products because of their luxurious packages. I went for the Smouldering Eye-Palette, the Fig eye pen and one more nail polish which I’ll be reviewing soon.

The Smouldering Eye Palette is one of the two palettes that Ciaté has released together with Olivia Palermo. First of all, I love the presentation and the luxurious yet compact packaging! The faux leather with the imprint of Ciaté and Olivia Palermo on the top, the golden edges and the golden writing on the palette, the big mirror and the big pots of colors, I think this concept is a winner at least in my palette wardrobe.

The palette is said to be inspired by different fabrics and it has a fall color feeling over it. On the outer box it says that the colors are highly blendable and after trying some combinations I can say that it’s true.

Let’s take a look at the shades:

The top row

  • Camo – A beautiful olive shade with a slightly shimmery finish.
  • London – Blue-ish dark gray, matte
  • Pisces – light gray with a shimmery finish. It’s a great eye shadow to combine with the rest of the shimmery shades because of its neutral shade.
  • Double Denim – Dark blue with a shimmery finish. I think the name Denim is a good description of the shade. Some of my jeans have that shade.

The middle

  • Butler – bone, matte

The bottom row

  • Amaretto – Dark purple/maroon/aubergine shade with a matte finish.
  • Mulberry – Dark purple/maroon shade with a shimmery finish. Together with Camo these two are my absolutely favorites from the palette.
  • Penny Jar – it looks purple-ish on the palette but it turns out to be gray and slightly shimmery on the eye-lid.
  • Blondie – brown, matte. Blondie acts like a nude to my skin-tone as I can barely see it both swatched and applied to my eye-lids

I can think of many combinations with these shades, most of them being work-appropriate. As I said in the description above my favorites so far are Camo and Mulberry but I think Penny Jar and Pisces are going to be great complements to these two shades. The pigmentation of the palette is not too strong and I find it to be just right for my taste.

I’ve also got the chance to review the Smoked Out eye-pencil called Fig. This is a dark purple – dark enough to be used instead of a black yet not so dark that you don’t see it’s purple-colored in daylight. I absolutely love this pen, not only for its color but also for the softness and for the fact that it glides so easy on the eyelid. On the other side of the pencil it has a brush with soft bristles that one should use to smooth out the pencil-line. I process is easy but in the end I prefer wearing the pencil as an eyeliner keeping the sharp edges of the pencil.

I’ve also tried to combine the eye-shadows and do a make up look but I’ve found it difficult to transfer how it looks in person to the pictures, probably because I’ve never done pics like this before :D.

Also it looks like the shades aren’t well-blended on the pics but they surely do look blended in person.

For this combination I’ve used:

  • London – For the outer corner of my eyes
  • Mulberry – For the middle section
  • Butler – For the inner corner of my eyes
  • Fig – for the eye-line

Those are beautiful colors :) I can imagine how hard it could be – to show a make up in pics exactly the way it looks like in real life! It’s a good try anyways, well done :)
