Today I wanted to play around with the water spotted technique to combine a couple of contrasting colors and see what happens. I was already wearing OPI – I Cannoli Wear OPI on my nails since a couple of days ago and I thought this soft gray/off-white would work perfectly as a base for my experimenting. I wanted to combine a vivid blue, a vivid pink and a gold and create the different patterns.
My first water spotted layer was the blue Revlon – Wild Card. The polish acted exactly as I was expecting it to do and I’ve got a pattern very close to what I had imagined in my head. That’s kind of rare so I was happy :D
The second water spotted layer was supposed to be the metallic gold – CND Vinylux – Locket Love. The gold didn’t create any pattern in the water even though I tried my best with the hair spray but it spread to a shimmery surface that was actually very pretty! I thought that would add a nice shimmer to the nails so I dipped all of them, picking up the shimmery thin layer. You can see that result on the ringfinger which I kept with only the blue and the thin gold layer.
The third layer was a pink one coming from IsaDora called Cherise. It had spread so even on the surface and it had created such fine structures that I decided to use that pattern on three of the nails even if I would have preferred a pattern close to the blue one.
I kind of liked the result but I think I’ll do this differently the next time ;)
