Nail Art Sunday – Fan Brush Technique Tutorial

Hi lovelies! For today’s nail art Sunday I have a fan brush manicure to show you. For a little while ago I showed you this manicure done with the fan brush technique and Katarina from Edgy Polish wished I would have done a tutorial on that. The fan brush technique is one of the techniques that I will include in my upcoming e-book “Basic Nail Art Techniques” and I thought this would be a good time to show how I’m using the fan brush and at the same time show you a little extraction from the book. The pictures below will be the same in the book (with small changes maybe) while the text will be a little different.

For the manicure above I’ve used Ciaté – Ciaté – Hopscotch as a base and China Glaze – Grass is Lime Greener and Kicks – Lemon Grass for the fan brushes.

This is how to do it:

  1. Start by applying the base polish
  2. Dip the fan brush into the nail polish. Make sure the fan brush isn’t drenched into the polish
  3. Start applying brush strokes on the nails
  4. Repeat applying brush strokes from one side of the nail to another
  5. If you use several polishes, change to the next one and continue applying brush strokes from one side to another
  6. Clean up the cuticles with a nail art brush and nail polish remover or acetone and top coat the manicure
  7. The final result with topcoat

The final funky French on the first picture is freehanded.

So, what do you think? Any tips or suggestions on how I could improve this tutorial?

Riktigt snyggt! Gillar att du lämnade tipparna så det blev en funky french typ!

Jag har ju nyss testat fan brush och jag gillade det, men tyckte dina vara coolare med tipparna. Härmar jag nästa gång.

    Great tutorial!
I love the look of fan brush nails, but I never managed to make it look good so far. I think I’ll try again :)

Älskar det orange-röda lacket, så somrigt och härligt.

Beautiful hon!!! And thank you for the tutorial – I know now what I did wrong when trying the fanbrush: way too much polish!!! But I guess this is quite a common beginner mistake ;-P

Beautiful results, I love the colours you chose for this fan brush nail art :) I recently did a very subtle one and I do enjoy doing these manicures. One day I will do one as bright and colourful as yours :) I love your finished nails! <3 xx

YES! I am loving this already. I can’t wait to see more of your tutorials! I don’t have a fan brush but I am definitely thinking about getting some higher quality brushes for nail art soon. :)
